지난 2008년 5월 12일, 중국 남서부 쓰촨성에서 규모 8.0에 달하는 지진이 발생했다. 9만 명이 죽거나 실종됐고, 37만 명의 부상자가 발생한 것으로 기록된 ‘쓰촨 대지진’이다. 이 대지진으로 실의(뜻이나 의욕을 잃음)에 빠져 있던 중국인들에게 희망을 안겨준 동물이 있었다. 무너진 건물 잔해에 깔려 36일 동안 생존해 기적적으로 구출됐던 아기 돼지 ‘주젠창’이 주인공. 주젠창이 14세의 나이로 최근 자연사(나이가 들어 자연히 죽음)했다.
Translation
On the 12th of June, 2008, there was an earthquake in China’s south western Sichuan province reaching a magnitude of 8.0. ‘Sichuan Earthquake’ recorded around 90 thousand dead or went missing, and 37 thousand injured. There was an animal that gave hope to the Chinese people who had fallen into despair (when one loses meaning and motivation). Baby pig Zhu Jianqiang (in Korean transliteration, Ju Jenchang), who miraculously survived 31 days buried under rubble from collapsed buildings, was the ‘main character’ (of the story). Zhu Jianqiang at age 14 recently died of natural causes.
